Yet today I get a call that my car is done. I drive 45 minutes to the dealer. I walk in the dealer. I get teased with, “Let me go pull your car around.”

Then, of course: “VW is sending a rep to inspect the car, we’ll be sure that the car is filled up and clean. You can’t take it until it’s done.”

I’m more than fine with the rep, but 1. Part of the reason the rep is coming is from your “detailing department” ruining my paint. And 2. Tell me before I waste an hour and a half of my day by going to the dealer.

I may have caused a slight scene when he told me they would detail the car to make it up. I yelled out “So they can scratch the shit out of it some more.” And that’s when I left.

Midlands VW of Columbia is the name.

I maintain that VW builds good cars, but the dealers and owners ruin them. I may be biased with 197k trouble free* miles with zero visits to the dealer.

*A few little things have broke but nothing out of the ordinary

Not surprising, having briefly worked for a dealer as a general shop/yard bitch. The “detailing” department was mostly there to take disgusting trade-ins and clean them until it looked like they might have actually been maintained.

I got this just in case I need to bring any of the cars into the dealer. My local dealer fucked up my TDI once and then tried to lie about it. Here we go:

When I worked at this dealer I noticed some damage on a car one time the service writer didn’t notate. She came down to the bay, marked the paper, along with all three carbon copies, and walked away.

WAIT WHAT?!?!?

She never gave customers the carbon copy and then would mark it if someone noticed something.

So several years later I bring my TDI in. It just so happens there is existing damage to the front bumper underneath when my mom accidentally pulled too far forward. It wasn’t a big deal. But the writer missed it, and I didn’t say anything. I, of course, took a carbon copy.

I come back a few hours later and there’s a huge chip out of my driver’s side door where it meets the front fender. I look at their copy and they had marked the bumper damage and the door damage on theres.

I lost my shit.

But I went to my body shop and got the estimate. I drove back, handed the service manager the estimate and he just pushed it back on the desk and said no. I calmly said, “Okay, I’ll just contact the BAR.” I then go meet my mom at work and she calls him, and he again refuses. She ends the call with, “Okay, I’ll see you in court.”

About ten minutes later I get a call from the body shop... The dealer had authorized the repairs.

But it gets better. We go get a rental, and because we’re genius we planned it for when my mom and sisters were going to go out to Phoenix. We get back to Enterprise and they try and bill us for excess mileage. The dealer had only paid for a rental with limited mileage. I told them to fuck off (Enterprise.) And they did.

The next time I had brought my car in for a recall I had a dash camera and I put a notice in it saying they were being recorded and to not disable it. I have to do that according to CA law. I also taped any blemishes in the paint and took pictures with them standing there. I leave and about half an hour later they said it was already done. They hadn’t even moved the car! It was just a software update so they chose not to risk fucking my car up again.

I still get knots in my stomach every time I have to go in. I put off the TDI “fix” for over a year because I dread it so much.

Solidarity brother. Just take measures like that so they know not to fuck with the car.

Santa Monica VW was awesome, but... I haven’t dealt with their service department. My mom suggested I take the TDI in there for the emissions “fix,” but I chose to stick with the dealer here since they know not to fuck with me.

I really wish VWoA would just burn all their dealers and start over.

I did not feel bad when the dealers were pissed at VW over the fix. On top of most of them being shady, they had an opportunity to generate new car sales and just totally failed.

I haven’t been inside a VW dealer in years. Most that I have experience (midwest and south) with totally blow though. The big dealer in Memphis ruined my friend’s gti and it was lemon law’d. After they did not remove the pucks from the suspension, he bent two wheels. Upon replacing them, the tech missed a gear on the test drive (went to 1st instead of 3rd), and did engine damage. Instead of, you know, telling him this happened, they cleared the codes and gave his car back. It was obviously driving like shit and they gave him the run around a few more visits until they actually tried to fix it. A fix which they botched. It wasn’t until wayyy later he found out what actually happened. Needless to day, he now drives a wrx and swore off VW forever. All the while, the peop le who said VW’s are unreliable POS, thought they were right.

The Jag XK I almost bought had more and more of the interior finish sanded away every time I came back to look at it. The day I was going to pick it up, I finally said no. It was starting to look more orange than tan.

Well if you want to be able to easily get the clips to share them Anker’s wifi ones are the best. But I prefer to have the front and rear filmed at the same time so I use this Veckle model in both e-Golfs. The picture is fantastic front and rear. I happened to acquire another model, brand new in the box, and I’d be willing to sell it to you. If you’re interested make me an offer.

I have been pretty happy with that one, especially for the price. They have a dual front/rear version for a little bit more but I just didnt feel like spending it. I’d rather just run two of the main camera if I really wanted to add a rear view.

The most important feature is that it does not use a battery. There are others that also use a supercap instead of a battery but that was the key selling point. This is definitely the cheapest one with that feature. I have no concerns with Socal heat melting my shit!
